Dyaush(-Pitir)
   Primitive Aryan sky father who may be equated with Zeus and Jupiter although the adventures of both of them clearly belong to the history of the Mediterranean Sea. By the time the Vedas were written Dyaush had already receded into the background. It is possible that Dyaush-Pitir may originally have been a sun-mother goddess. Alternative spelling is Dyaus-pitri.
